The Great Human Challenge
We have risen from the lower forms of nature in regards to our level of consciousness and general, common, behavior driven by instinct. Now, we can perceive reality above our common day-to-day activities to stay alive. We can perceive the "Big Picture," in a real and practical way, and this has created a new freedom and opportunity for what we choose to do with our lives. The function of instinct in the lower forms has served to create robotic, repetitive action to support and sustain survival. This has effectively created a situation in which any particular being becomes very self focused and self-serving to sustain life.
A feature of some of the common problems in human life is related to the limitations of our primitive nature and legacy. Awareness that does not perceive the larger picture, creates limitations and problems as well as the possibility of significant negativity and destructiveness. Throughout human history the great human created disasters, atrocities, and difficulties have arisen because of the narrowness of vision and awareness in the human beings involved in bringing these to pass. A Holocaust, for example, is a vast tragic result of limited awareness and perception, out of this limitation - erroneously concluding the superiority of one group of people over another and thereby negating and degrading the inestimable value of large numbers of human beings. Violence and abuse between human beings is more a creation of primitive emotion and awareness, and would be transcended and overcome by a level of consciousness and awareness that continually perceives and honors the priceless value of a human being.
This brings me to the issue of the great human challenge. We do have the capability of achieving and sustaining a level of awareness that allows us to see what is truly important in life above the primitive limited views of our more base nature. What we must do is to develop a kind of " God's Eye View," of ourselves and others in this life, and this is possible for us to achieve in a way. As we develop a positive spiritual view based on the fundamental intrinsic value of life and all its manifestations, this realization then guides our behavior and compels us to act in ways that honor this intrinsic value of life. This is a pragmatic understanding of spiritual love. For true spiritual love is brought about through higher consciousness which sees fundamental, and in estimable value in each and every being, and then compels behavior which honors and values that immeasurable preciousness.
It is the exact nature of the human challenge that we rise above our base instinct and perception, to strive to continue to see the inestimable value of all of the creations of life, and to adjust our attitudes and behaviors so that what we express in this life are actions that honor its immeasurable value. This is the Great Love which is possible for each of us at any moment and every moment. We go a long way towards realizing the meaning of our life and the purpose of life in a deep and profound way, through our persistent spiritual awareness and concordant honoring actions. May each of us be inspired to awaken to our great potential and assume the great noble challenge of aspiring in each and every moment to express love to this world for the short time that we have to do it!
