The Miraculous Nature of Reality

Back in the 19th century, the poet Walt Whitman wrote a poem about miracles.  In it, he describes a number of the things and circumstances commonly experienced in life that truly are miraculous on a fundamental level.  When we consider spiritual love or" agape" as being based upon awareness of the priceless value of each and every being and creation, we can see that part of this priceless is the miraculous aspect of our being.  It is probably true that we do not often stop to think about what wondrous creatures we truly are, not to mention the wondrous reality of everything in creation.

Firstly, we are a composite creation that has arisen through relationship with life.  We are the result of life's communication and relationship with itself.  We are the elementary substances of nature woven through the eons, honed and perfected by the noble processes of evolution and natural selection into a wondrous, multi functional composite being that is capable of consciousness, perception, reflection, and action.  We are the grand achievement of life's perfection.  We are the ultimate survivor and exceptionally resilient to all of the potentially destructive forces of nature.  And now we may even maintain life from the South Pole to the ocean's depths to the surface of the moon. Everything that we are is a reflection of our relationship with life.  We are not separate beings but interrelated beings.  And that we have achieved the level of complexity and sophistication that we have is amazing and truly miraculous.

Secondly, we are fundamentally miraculous.  Deep within the core of the elements that comprise our physical being is the realm of quantum physics.  Quantum waves or particles are truly magical manifestations of reality.  Some of these entities have questionable existence and may prove impossible to observe or locate in a specific point of space-time. Not only that, but there is really not that much matter to us.  There is an incredible amount of space in every single atom of our being between the nucleus of the atom and its outer electrons.  We are really largely space.  That is a miracle.

Lastly, we really do not know what the fundamental reality truly is.  All we have now are theories about the ultimate fundamental units of existence.  We really do not know how far down the rabbit hole we can go until we arrive at the basis of all existence.  At this time, this is an impenetrable mystery.  And the great question remains unanswered:" What are we really?"  But, in light of this great mystery is another realization and another dimension of mystique in regards to what we are.  How it truly looks from one way of seeing things is that we are magic, we are mysterious, we are miraculous.

When we look at ourselves as we truly are through eyes of love what we see is the magic, the mystery, and the miracle.  This does provide us with a view of ourselves that lends itself towards a greater appreciation of the wonder of what we are.  There is no doubt that there are many things wrong with us individually and collectively.  Our history and the daily news are filled with the evidence of our defects and the dark side of our existence.  The wonder of what we are however is" a priori" to what we have become.  And the story of what we have become is not yet finished.  Out of the great wonder of the core of our being comes reason for hope for our future and for brighter destiny.  If we truly can develop and maintain a life and worldview through eyes of love, what we create through love will vastly outshine all that we have done wrong.  This is our great hope.
